Neurocognitive disorder due to traumatic brain injury
DC 9304 names a diagnosed major or mild neurocognitive disorder due to traumatic brain injury. The Mental Disorders questionnaire can record that diagnosis and whether its effects can be distinguished from TBI residuals. VA’s TBI criteria at DC 8045 also address cognitive, emotional/behavioral and physical effects.
A dedicated TBI examination is separate; VA’s initial and review TBI DBQs are not public. DC 8045 Note (1) addresses overlapping effects: the same manifestations are not counted twice, and separate evaluations depend on whether effects can be clearly separated.
