Apply for CHAMPVA health coverage
CHAMPVA shares eligible health-care costs for qualifying family members; it is separate from a Veteran’s VA medical enrollment.
Who this program may help
Qualifying sponsor and family status matter. People eligible for TRICARE cannot qualify for CHAMPVA under these instructions; Medicare rules also apply.
Read official eligibility instructions1. Read the coverage requirements
Family, sponsor, TRICARE and Medicare rules matter.
Check the section matching the applicant before completing the application.
Why this matters

3. Use the caregiver program path when applicable
A qualifying primary caregiver may be eligible for CHAMPVA through the Program of Comprehensive Assistance for Family Caregivers.
Apply for comprehensive caregiver assistance first when seeking coverage through that program.
Why this matters
This path does not require a separate ordinary CHAMPVA application after VA determines qualification.
VA enrolls qualifying primary caregivers automatically.
